FACS 241:
Architectural Drafting

This class taught me about line weight, lettering, symbols, and construction elements.

Residential  Project

The residential project is a six phase project that took about half of the semester to complete. It takes you through the Palmer house's history from demolition to elevations and detail drawings. This project challenged my knowledge of line weights, lettering and drawing skills

Hand Drawn

Building Section

For this assignment I have recreated a multi-story building’s floor plates. It is easy to focus one level of a house, but experienced designers must multi-task on a plethora of little projects at once. This assignment was an opportunity to put a lot of attention into multiple rooms all on one section drawing.

Wall Detail Section

I have been learning about the basic construction of residential and commercial walls and the various elements that make up these building components. For this assignment, I have recreated a detail drawing from the James Hardie Company that shows the ground clearances for a rainscreen wall.

Stair Section

Stairs are complex structures, and an intimate knowledge of their construction is key to successfully depicting them in architectural drawings. For this assignment I recreated the stair section provided, including all labels. The project was quite complex and by working through all of the nuances I gained a better understanding of how a staircase is built.

Door and window schedules are an integral part of any set of construction documents as it serves as a reference for each element specified on the plans. For this assignment I found two doors and one double-hung window and draw a proportional model of each. One door must be a solid core, exterior, with at least two panels and no glass. The other is to be an interior, hollow core door, with at least two panels and no glass.

Doors and Window Types

ADA Bathroom

Planning ADA restrooms is an architectural endeavor with a slew of considerations and regulations. For this assignment, I designed a women’s restroom with three toilet stalls (one of which is ADA), two sinks, and a baby changing station as well as a men’s restroom with two urinals and a toilet, all of which are ADA compliant, along with two sinks and a baby changing station. I made the restrooms adjacent to one another and arranged the restrooms in such a manner that provides visual privacy from the corridor. I also drew an elevation of the primary wet wall at ½” scale just like the floorplan.
